Two sides of the coin

Last fall, I went to my last job fair at CMU. There were many booths with swags, but Rosetta Stone had an interesting one - digital caricature service. After each recruiter session, someone took a picture of everyone on the line. Surprisingly, my picture was picked for one of the caricature demos (probably because I was one of the first people at the booth). I was excited be picked at the moment as people watched the process through the monitor facing them, but I forgot about it almost immediately. After a few days, I was surprised again by the email from him - a zip file with a dozen of icons and a personal message. That's how I remember the artist's name until now.

Today I stumbled upon his blog post that describes the behind story. What was interesting to me was how he saw the event as performance art. I never thought of it that way, particularly because it wasn't my focus of the day. The entire process of taking pictures, drawing caricatures on the fly, and sending personal emails was designed to be a "light-weight" entertaining service to the users, who were there for some other reason. After all, I had a very seamless and interactive experience of the digital performance art. I'm glad this random web surfing gave me another perspective to my world.

Craigslist Redesigned

After finishing my degree, I've been using Craigslist extensively to search for housing and other things, and spent time figuring out a better way to find what I was looking for. My frustration with the Craigslist led me to start the project that would solve my own (and potentially many other's) problem. I am curious what you think about the redesign concept, whether you like it or not, and if you see yourself become more productive using the tool.
